PERIODIC PAYMENT AWARDS INTRODUCED

Judges may now impose periodic payments instead of a lump sum award to victims of a personal injury e.g. pedestrians, passengers or motorists involved in a traffic accident or those who suffer serious damage in hospital through negligence e.g. as a result of surgery or brain damage to babies caused by lack of oxygen during birth.
